1. What are your rights
Under GDPR you are entitled to see copies of all personal data held by us and to amend, correct, delete or export such data. You can also limit, restrict or object to the processing of your data. 2. Who is responsible for your personal data?
EU-OPENSCREEN is an ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) established with the European Commission Implementing Decision of 20thMarch 2018 (reference 2018/C 111/01), with the goal of collaboratively developing novel molecular tool compounds together with external users from various disciplines of the life sciences, offering researchers from Europe and around the world open access to a uniquely broad range of high technologies and compound libraries for the systematic screening of chemical substances for their biological effects.

We are the data controller of the data which we collect from you, and as such we control the ways your personal data are collected and the purposes for which your personal data are used.
3. Personal data we collect about you
Your privacy comes first, and we aim at the highest standard for data privacy introduced by GDPR. We may collect, process and use your personal data either through our website (when you request information form us or when you register/sign up for our newsletter), mailings or through personal contacts and business cards.
We only collect basic personal data about you, which does not include any special types of information or sensitive data. This, however, may include personal data such as name, function, address, email, phone number.
4. Why we need your data and what we do with your data?
We can only collect and use your personal data if we have a proper reason for doing so. According to the law, we can only use your data for one or more of these reasons:
• To fulfil a contract we have with you, or
• If we have a legal duty to use your data for a particular reason, or
• When you consent to it, or
• When it is in our legitimate interests;
We need to know your basic personal data in order to provide you with the information you request from us, or to provide you with on-going organisational, scientific activities and events updates related to our infrastructure and the services we provide. For this purpose, we process personal data based on your consent.
We collect and process personal information about members and staff of EU-OPENSCREEN institutions within the EU-OPENSCREEN infrastructure or from organisations we connect with. We process this information in light of our legitimate interests, including our interest in providing our services to our users (members and partners), managing ongoing joint activities and fostering further scientific collaborations.
We collect and process personal information needed to carry out any of our obligations arising from any contracts between you and us, on the legal basis of performance of a contract.
EU-OPENSCREEN-DRIVE offers users the opportunity to apply for research infrastructure access visits, internships, R&D funding and grants. Such applications are made by submitting a proposal through our ARIA online portal, which go through peer review. Additional personal data is required in the form of your research referencesand biography. Personal data will be kept private and only visible to EU-OPENSCREEN Central Office staff and external reviewers bound by an non-disclosure agreement, or staff members within EU-OPENSCREEN partner site(s) who will host your visit.
More specifically, we use the personal data you provide for the purpose of reviewing your application, arranging the services, and to communicate with you throughout the process. We process your data on the basis of the proposal contract which we ask you to agree with at the final stage of the online proposal system. We are required to maintain personal data for the purposes of reporting to our funders, and to comply with EU or German law related to financial recording.
5. Use of ARIA and the ARIA API
We provide an API to allow you to integrate your proposal data from ARIA into external applications. If you choose to export your proposal using our API, you will be sharing your personal information with a third party of your choice. In choosing to authenticate using your ARIA account, you are agreeing that a small amount of personal data is shared with the partner service. This data includes your name, institutional affiliation and email address.
Limited personal information (name, home country) of successful applicants might be published on the EU-OPENSCREEN-ERIC website, and may be shared with funders on request.
In certain cases, research proposal peer reviewers may be located outside of the EEA, in which case your proposal data may leave the EU GDPR jurisdiction. However, reviewers will still be bound by non-disclose agreements.As of 2019, there are no EU-OPENSCREEN partner sites outside of the European Economic Area (EEA). If your visit is scheduled for a research infrastructure network partner outside of the EEA, your personal data will be shared with the EU-OPENSCREEN Central Office and associated networking partner site facilitating your visit. All reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy.
6. Sharing your data
We do not share your data with third parties for commercial and marketing purposes. Your personal data may be only shared in the context of specific scientific activities and research collaboration opportunities.
Certain personal information may also be shared with our third-party service providers (such as web hosting, newsletter software provider etc.) only for the purpose of realising these services. As far as these third parties have access to personal data in order to execute these processing activities, we have taken required organisational and contractual measures to ensure that your personal data is processed exclusively for the purposes mentioned above.
We may share your personal data with the competent authorities, and only if we are required to do so by law.
7. How long we keep your data
We keep your data only for as long as we need it. How long we need data depends on what we are using it for, whether that is to provide services to you, for our own legitimate interests (described above) or so that we can comply with the law.
We will actively review the information we hold and when there is no a legal or business need for us to hold it, we will delete it. Your personal information we use for the newsletter purposes will be kept with us until you notify us that you no longer wish to receive this information. If you have previously opted-in to receiving emails from us, you can opt out by clicking on the unsubscribe link included in all newsletter emails.
8. Complaints
If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal data, you can contact us to have the matter investigated at office@eu-openscreen.eu and drive@eu-openscreen.eu
If you are not satisfied with our response or believe we are processing your personal data not in accordance with the law, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority which is responsible for the protection of personal data in the country where you live or work, or in which you think a breach of data protection laws might have taken place. 10. What are cookies?
Cookies are short text files placed on your device through the web browser you use. They collect standard information such as the browser type, browser language, your Internet Protocol (IP) address and your interaction with the website. This information is anonymous. In practice, the information gathered is not capable of directly identifying you or tracking your web-browsing activities outside the EU-OPENSCREEN domain. Also, cookies are not able of infecting your device with viruses or installing unwanted or security-threatening software.
11. How do we use cookies?
Cookies assist us in improving your experience and interaction with our website. 12. How long do cookies persist on your browser?
The period that cookies remain on your device may vary depending on their type. Transient cookies (including session cookies storing the session-IDs and offering the functionality of recognising your device when returning to the website) are automatically removed when you exit your web browser. Persistent cookies are usually not automatically removed when you exit your web browser but after a definite period that may vary depending on their type. Persistent cookies can always be manually removed from your web browser.
13. How do I control/delete cookies?
You can control and/or delete cookies by deleting all cookies that are already on your computer or disabling the use of cookies from your browsing application for this website and others.
